Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 25, 2026

The Tech Wizard teaches technology to people, one-to-one and in classes. Many of our clients are seniors, and we know that questions about privacy deserve a straight answer in plain language. This policy explains what information we collect through our website and our business, how we use it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

The short version:

  • We never sell or rent your personal information. We never have.
  • We only collect what you give us, plus basic website traffic data.
  • We only send texts about your own appointments or in reply to your questions. We do not send marketing texts.
  • You can ask us at any time what we have about you, correct it, or have it deleted.
  • Questions? Call 888.332.2299 or email judi@thetechwizard.com. A real person will answer.

WHO WE ARE

The Tech Wizard is a technology teaching and consulting business owned and operated by Judi Jacobs in Santa Monica, California. When this policy says “we” or “us,” that means The Tech Wizard. This policy covers thetechwizard.com and the information we collect when you become a client, attend a class, buy a membership, or contact us.

WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect only information you choose to give us, plus some basic information collected automatically when you visit the website.

Information you give us:

  • Contact forms. Your name and email address, and whatever you write in your message. Some forms ask for a phone number.
  • Newsletter. Your name and email address. Our newsletter is sent through a third-party service, Aweber.
  • Appointments and payments. When you book or pay for a session or class, we use Acuity Scheduling and Square. These services collect your name, contact information, appointment details, and payment information. Card numbers go directly to the payment processor. We never see or store your full card number, and we will never ask for it by email or text.
  • Memberships. If you buy or renew a membership, we keep your membership type, start and renewal dates, and payment history. Membership billing is handled by either Acuity Scheduling or Square, depending on which you choose at signup. We do not store your card number.
  • Text messages. If you give us permission to text you, we keep your mobile number and a record of that permission. See the Text Messaging section below.
  • Comments. If you leave a comment on the site, we receive your name, email address, and comment. If you choose, your browser can remember these details in a cookie so you do not have to type them again. That cookie lasts one year.
  • Anything else you share. During a teaching session you may show us things on your own device. We do not copy, keep, or transmit that information, and we do not ask for your passwords.

Information collected automatically: like most websites, ours records basic technical information such as your browser type, the pages you visit, and the general region you are visiting from. This is described in the Cookies and Analytics section below.

TEXT MESSAGING (SMS)

We send text messages only to clients who have given us permission, and only about their own appointments — scheduling, confirmations, reminders, changes, reschedules, and cancellations — or in reply to a question a client has texted us. Appointment reminders are sent automatically through our scheduling system, Acuity Scheduling, usually 24 hours before the appointment.

We do not send marketing, advertising, or promotional text messages. Giving us your mobile number will not put you on any promotional list.

Mobile phone numbers and consent to receive text messages are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes. Numbers are shared only with the service providers that deliver these messages on our behalf, such as Acuity Scheduling, and only for that purpose.

Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan. Message frequency varies. Your mobile carrier is not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. You can stop automated appointment reminders at any time by replying STOP to any reminder. Reply HELP to any automated reminder for help. Texts sent personally by Judi are not automated — just tell her you would like her to stop, or call 888.332.2299 or email judi@thetechwizard.com.

Please do not send passwords, account numbers, or other sensitive information by text. Text messaging is not a secure channel.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information we collect to:

  • Answer your questions and respond to what you contacted us about
  • Schedule, confirm, remind you about, and follow up on your appointments and classes
  • Process payments for sessions, classes, and memberships
  • Manage your membership, including sending you a renewal reminder about a month before your membership renews
  • Send our newsletter, if you asked for it
  • Understand which pages of our site people find useful, so we can improve them
  • Keep records we are required to keep, such as records of consent to receive texts

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not run advertising on this site.

COOKIES AND ANALYTICS

A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. Some cookies are necessary to make the site work. Others help us understand how the site is used.

  • Cookie choices. We use CookieYes to present a cookie notice and record your preferences. You can change your choices at any time using the cookie notice on the site.
  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit the site and which pages they read. Google Analytics does not tell us who you are. You can opt out of Google Analytics in any browser with the Google Analytics Opt-Out Add-on.
  • Jetpack Stats. Our site runs on WordPress with Jetpack, by Automattic, which records basic visit statistics.
  • Google Fonts. Some page fonts are loaded from Google, which means Google receives the request, including your IP address.
  • Akismet. Comment submissions are checked for spam by Akismet, a service from Automattic, which receives the comment and the submitter’s details for that purpose.

We do not use Facebook Pixel or any advertising tracker on this website.

DO WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION?

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone, and we never have. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

We do share information with the service providers that make our business run, and only so they can do the job we hired them for. Those are:

  • Acuity Scheduling — appointments, reminders, appointment text messages, and membership billing if you chose Acuity
  • Square — payment processing, and membership billing if you chose Square
  • Aweber — newsletter delivery (their anti-spam policy)
  • Automattic — WordPress, Jetpack, and Akismet, which host and protect the website
  • Google — website analytics and fonts

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to comply with a legal process.

HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION

We keep client and appointment records for as long as you are a client and for a reasonable period afterward, so we can pick up where we left off if you come back and so we can meet tax and business record requirements. Membership records, including payment history, are kept for as long as you are a member and afterward as required for tax and business records. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Records of consent to receive text messages are kept for as long as that consent is in effect, and for a period afterward as proof that it was given. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.

YOUR CHOICES AND YOUR RIGHTS

You may contact us at any time by email at judi@thetechwizard.com (info@thetechwizard.com reaches the same inbox) or by phone at 888.332.2299 to:

  • See what information we have about you, if any
  • Correct anything that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete your information
  • Ask us to stop contacting you
  • Raise any concern about how we use your information

Email. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also simply ask us and we will remove you.

Texts. Reply STOP to any automated reminder, or tell Judi directly.

Cookies. Use the cookie notice on the site, or your browser’s privacy settings.

YOUR CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS

We are a small business and we are not required to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act. We think California residents should have these rights anyway, so we honor them for everyone: the right to know what personal information we have collected about you, the right to correct it, the right to have it deleted, and the right not to be treated differently for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, email judi@thetechwizard.com or call 888.332.2299.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law.

OUR ANTI-SPAM COMMITMENT

The Tech Wizard is strongly opposed to spam. We send email only to people who asked to hear from us — newsletter subscribers, people who completed a contact form, members, and current clients — and everything we send is related to what you asked about.

SECURITY

We take reasonable precautions to protect your information. The website is served over an encrypted connection; you can confirm this by looking for the lock icon and “https” in your browser’s address bar. Payment information is encrypted and handled by our payment processor, not stored by us. Access to client records is limited to Judi Jacobs and to the service providers listed above. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security — but we will tell you promptly if something goes wrong that affects your information.

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

Our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES

This website contains links to other sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any website that collects your information.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If we change this policy, we will post the change on this page and update the “Last Updated” date at the top. If we ever decide to use personal information in a way that is materially different from what we said when we collected it, we will tell you first and give you a choice.
