Meet Judi Jacobs, The Tech Wizard

As a former plaintiff’s tort trial lawyer, I began my journey into teaching and learning about technology in the early part of my legal career. Like many of you, I did not grow up with a computer. I am not a computer engineer. I am not a so-called “digital native.” (i.e. I am not under 35!)

My first experience with computers came through work in my law firm. I had to struggle through and learn how to do things by trying and failing. If there were a training opportunity at work I would take it.

When something went wrong with a colleague or my computer, I would watch how the “tech guys” (never women in those days) fixed the problem. The next time I experienced a similar issue I would resolve it by trying to retrace the steps of the tech guys.

As a mother of five children, I had no choice but to stay on top of technology. Each one had different skills and unique needs and abilities on the computer. One was an expert at getting around the Netscape Nanny software I installed. I had to stay one step ahead of him to be able to recognize when he was hacking it to try again or use another piece of software. Through the necessities of life, I discovered a love of computers and mobile devices.

Judi Jacobs Computer ClassSharing my Passion for Technology

In 2005 I launched my IT business in conjunction with the practice of law. Five years later, I was employed as the IT Coordinator for a private elementary school in Los Angeles from 2010 – 2012. In August 2012, I decided to devote my efforts to my passion: teaching people how to use technology for life.
